The following is a guide on how to build a Racer type chocobo.
Written by Stryke of (Asura)

Stats on any Chocobo DO CAP AT 637 (TOTAL)
Lowering stats can be time consuming and eventually impossible after day 60ish
Check wiki if you would like to see what stats are possible.

Poor 0-31
Substandard 32-63
A bit deficient 64-95
Average 96-127
Better than average 128-159
Impressive 160-191
Outstanding 192-223
First-Class 224-255

Raising chocobos can take a fair bit of time. It will also take a TON of chocobucks. A single stat increase costs
around 70-80 Chocobucks. Expect to spend 64-120 days with your Racer before you retire it.
If you dont have a bird already raised with decent strength and
endurance (Impressive or higher) you wont be winning many free races and you wont be able to
get chocobucks. Without chocobucks you wont ever be able to train a perfect racing bird.

Counting Feeding, Care, and Free races, you will spend about 45 min a day. it is a daily ritual that should be done.
You also pretty much need the green racing silks. These will let you train your chocobo's stats faster.
Get them by using chocobucks from chocobo free races. You might need to raise a chocobo before hand and
just go for strength/endurance and retire it when its fairly high. Otherwise you wont even get 2nd place in free races and
will get measley 1 chocobuck a race. Stock up on chocobucks from the free races if you can. Do this before or during
the raising of your Racer.

Firstly you will need 2 chocobo cards. Enroll in a Jeuno Plan to get an egg, next RL day.
Best to have 2 birds of the color you wish to have yours match. Also you need one bird to have canter or gallop.
Choose the plan so that your chick inherits the Ability(important).

So next take the egg and turn it in to be raised in your home nation.

Days 0-4 (Egg stage)
Watch over the chocobo alot (recommended 25 times a day)
This way it will be born with maximum affection
If your bird did not inherit any ability ( cantor or gallop ) you will have a tough time raising a perfect racer.

Days 5-18 (Chick Stage)
Plan: Go for a walk
You got your green racing silks right?

First off, raise your birds strength/ endurance by doing Go for walk plans everyday.
Keep its Affection at highest level constantly. If it is not highest affection, feed it azouph/sharug greens and watch over it repeatedly.
Once affection is very high you can feed it multiplule vomp carrots a day and or azouph/ sharug greens till its completly full.
Then take it on walks every day till its endurance is to low for short walk. With its remaining energy you should watch over it repeatedly.
*Note when you return the next day you should find your choco is at about 85% energy.
This is because your bird used up some energy on its daily "Go for a walk" regime. this took me a long time to figure out.


Days 19-29 (Adolescence stage)
Go on Long walks or medium or short. Do them enough so you find all the possible stories. Start with the longer walks then
go to smaller ones to use up the most energy bar you can.
Do this until your bird is first class/ outstanding STR/END.
Remember to switch plans the moment it hits at least first class / outstanding STR/END


Days 30-43 (adult stage)
Plan: Deliver Messages (raises strength and endurance)
absolutely make sure Affection is its highest or near highest.
Choose Deliver messages to raise Strength and Endurance at once. Continue untill they are First class strength and at least Outstanding Endurance.
Sometimes i could do L , M, M , S, S, S walks if it was energetic
The walks of different lengths will get you every available story.


Days 44-64 (adult fast learning stage)
Plan: Walks untill str/end high then go to Dig for treasure
Note: dig for treasure will lower your endurance. This is actually a good thing.
Once you get first class STR and at least Outstanding END, Dig for treasure to raise its Discernment every day.
Read it the story you wish to learn from over and over. (I learned it on day 55) Use your saved choco bucks to get your discernement to at least A bit deficient(Gallop) or higher for canter(average?). Keep doing free races every day to get more choco bucks.
After day 64 you cannot raise (or lower) your choco stats with the care plans any longer. the only way to raise them is by using chocobucks.
I learned Gallop on day 55.

Day 64+
Plan - Basic Care.
Plans will no longer raise stats so now you have to raise them using chocobucks.
You will want to learn your 2nd ability around this time. Keep doing free races until you get your bird the perfect racing stats. I believe they are -

Strength First-Class
Endurance Outstanding
Discernment Better than average
Receptivity A bit deficient

Endurance Impressive
Discernment Better than average
Receptivity Average

Abilitys Gallop + Canter

Raise the chocobo's stats with the 80 chocobuck trainer of your non retired bird.

The previous post is very informative for raising stats, there are also food benefits, depending on what you feed your chocobo.

In no particular order, the chocobo food is listed below. Most of them you can get from the AH, or it can be gardened and the salads can be made with cooking.


■Tokopekko Wildgrass is effective for illnesses.

■Garidav Wildgrass is for stomachaches.

■Gausebit Grass is good for wounds.

■Vomp Carrots increase Strength and Endurance by 0.5.

■San d'Orian Carrot - Raises Endurance by 1 and lowers Strength by 1.

■Zegham Carrots Increases Discernment and Receptivity by a small amount.

■Cupid Worms increase the chocobo's affection by a substantial amount (about +3 Affection) and lowers one of your highest stats by a small amount. This effect is canceled when the bird is perky or in high spirits.

■Gregarious Worms - restores about 1/4 the chocobo's energy, completely fills chocobo.

■Parasite Worm - lowers a random stat and allows your bird to eat more. Also believed to erase one of its abilities, but is still to be confirmed. Also, the idea that worms permanently freeze stats is false. The reason this myth came about is a person would feed the bird this near day 64, which is when food no longer has any effect on the chocobo. Days after that are meant for learning abilities.

■Lethe Potage - Will erase abilities. Amount needed to feed varies from 1 to 6, effect is immediate.

■Gysahl Greens satisfy the chocobo's hunger (moderate amount) and increase the chocobo's affection slightly.

■Sharug Greens satisfy the chocobo's hunger (moderate amount) and increase the chocobo's affection dramatically. May take up to 5 to completely fill a starving chocobo.

■Azouph Greens satisfy the chocobo's hunger (highest amount) and increase the chocobo's affection dramatically. 2 will completely fill a starving chocobo.

■Chocolixir will restore the chocobo's energy to full (provided it is given when the chocobo is not full) And completely heal all status ailments. Fills a starving chocobo halfway.

■Chocotonic - wakes up sleeping chocobo, slightly lowers affection. This was introduced as a way to fix the bird from the sleep glitch.

■Celerity Salads are effective for most status abnormalities, restoring instant health to the chocobo. Also increases Discernment by small amount. Does not increase Receptivity though.

■Carrot Paste is feed for chicks that raises physical attributes, and fills the chick up rapidly, but lowers Discernment.

■Herb Paste is feed for chicks that cures illness.

■Vegetable Paste is feed for chicks, and increases affection.

■Worm Paste is feed for chicks, and heals it slightly and increases energy, while dramatically increasing affection, but lowering its stats.

■Lethe Consomme - Will erase abilities. Amount needed to feed varies from 1 to 6


Good luck with your chocobo raising!!! It's time consiming and can get expensive but it can pay off in the end.
